BARKA PARKA began as a hobby, in Australia, in 1976. Our Labrador, Lucas, by the age of 11 months, had outgrown his basket - the biggest available - and we had trouble finding a substitute. Nothing we could buy seemed to fit the bill - or the dog! - so we concluded that the only solution was to make him a bed ourselves. In doing so, we created an entirely new concept in Bean Beds, making them not only comfortable and easy to keep clean, but stylish enough to grace any room in the house. A friend asked us to make a bed for her dog ..... and then a friend of hers did ..... and so on ..... and thus BARKA PARKA was born!

Since then, we have never deviated from the principle of producing a quality product that we are proud to have in our home!

As a cottage industry, we developed BARKA PARKA so successfully in Australia that we seriously considered producing our beds full-time, but - as often happens - fate intervened. Lucas died suddenly in 1985 and we returned to England.

Since 1986, our family business has flourished in a very competitive field, because we obviously satisfy the market's long-standing need for eye-pleasing beds that last. Many of our clients come back to us for extras as their families increase! We regularly supply a famous London store, and we export to many countries worldwide, through agents and direct to individual customers.

The original bed that started it all so many years ago is still in daily use and has become a family heirloom! As each of Lucas's descendants comes to live with us, he snuggles down into it and becomes a bean bed addict - just like him!!

Barka Parka left Australia in 1986, and has become one of the UK's leading dog bed manufacturers and retailers.

We are, therefore, delighted to announce that another family member -Simon, with his wife Kara - recently re-established operations in
Melbourne. They are already successfully filling the hole in the market that was created when we returned to Britain.

Together, we are now able to supply the dogs and cats of the world with the finest bean beds available!
